MIAMI, FLORIDA, January 22, 2014 – The Zoological Society of Florida announced today that it has appointed William W. Moore as its President and Chief Executive Officer following an extensive national search led by Witt/Kieffer. Bill joins Zoo Miami and the ZSF at a critical time as it embarks on major capital projects including construction of a new entrance and the Florida: Mission Everglades exhibit.
“We’re excited by Bill’s arrival to Miami and his outstanding leadership experience of over 30 years in the field,” commented ZSF Board Chair Harlan Chiron, MD. “Bill is no stranger to the ever-changing and fast-paced tourism industry. He brings a passion for wildlife appreciation and conservation which will help propel our institutional growth.”
Bill Moore served most recently as Chief Operating Officer of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where he directed the largest capital project in the operation’s history, worked closely with NASA to create a 10 year master plan funding process, implemented special tours and created a one-of-a-kind space shuttle display that included a museum with more than 60 interactive exhibits. Before these impressive accomplishments, he was President and CEO of the Independence Visitor Center Corporation of Philadelphia and held senior executive positions at Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, including President of Six Flags Houston and Senior Vice President of Theme Park Development. Bill has also served on the board of VISIT Florida (the official tourism marketing corporation of Florida) and the Brevard Zoo. He holds a B.S. in Urban Administration from Georgia State University.
Witt/Kieffer consultants Gregory Santore and Jennifer Biehn advised ZSF on their search. “Working closely with The Zoological Society of Florida, we discovered a cultural treasure and translated the institutional strategy to develop a pool of talented national candidates,” said Santore, who also leads the firm’s Sports Leadership practice. “Bill Moore brings a powerful combination of experience to his new role – an understanding of the guest experience as well as deep knowledge of operations, finance, marketing, and content development to Zoo Miami. We wish him great success at ZSF.”
