Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe Carnivore Research Unit

The Zimbabwe Carnivore Research Unit was formed in 2007 as an expansion of an existing partnership to study the distribution, status, ecology and biology of all of the large carnivores in the Zimbabwe National Parks.  The Chipangali Wildlife Center in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and the Deputy Director of the Oregon Zoo, Chris Pfefferkorn partnered to form the unit that has resulted in a detailed account of the ecology and behavior of the leopard and biodiversity survey of the parks.  Chipangali is the base for the research efforts and functions as a home for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in the area.  Zoo Miami made a contribution in 2010 to the Zimbabwe Carnivore Research Unit to ensure continued support of their efforts.
