Kenya - Grevy’s Zebra
The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) seeks to maintain traditional wildlife migration routes and involve local communities in their preservation. Northern Kenya is home to approximately 93% of around 2000 remaining Grevy’s Zebras remaining in the wild. Grevy’s Zebra numbers have had the most dramatic range decline of any other African mammal in the past century due to poaching and resource competition. The NRT focuses its efforts on the education, involvement and training of the local communities to gain a greater appreciation for the habitat, curtail poaching and aid in population monitoring. Zoo Miami contributed funding in 2010 towards their efforts.
