The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Ape Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Conservation Initiative is a collaborative effort by zoos started in 2010 to help conserve wild ape populations.  In 2010, the Zoological Society of Florida donated towards this general fund to be distributed among many vital projects.  The Bonobo and Congo Biodiversity Initiative received a grant from the Initiative to help fund their efforts to survey the Salonga National Park, train Congolese experts to assess and aid in the conservation of bonobos, strengthen the national park’s ability to conserve the species through support of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation and educate the public about bonobo habitat.
