The International Rhino Foundation (IRF) works tirelessly in one of the most threatened ranges of the Black Rhinoceros in Zimbabwe.  This area has the fourth largest population of black rhinoceros in Africa due to intensive efforts but is still the most in need of protection against poaching and habitat loss.  Reduced staff and resources in the Zimbabwe National Parks have led to the highest amount of poaching seen in 15 years in 2009.  The IRF works with local communities to train individuals, increase anti-poaching patrols, remove snares, confiscate bullets, provide veterinary treatment and relocate at-risk rhinos.  Zoo Miami is supporting the IRF and all its programs to help rhinos in their native habitat.
