Amphibians of the Cauca Valley

Zoo Miami awarded a grant through its Conservation and Research Fund to support the work of German Corredor Londoño, Director Centro de Investigación CREA at the Cali Zoo.  German is heading up several initiatives to aid the amphibians of the Cauca Valley Region in Colombia.

German is monitoring the endemic amphibian populations in 8 locations in the Cauca Valley.  Through these efforts, he aims to gather information to determine the conservation status of 3 endangered amphibian species in this region, establish a diagnostic center for chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) detection, manage captive populations of 7 endangered amphibian species from the Valley and start a local environmental education program for the studied species in the Cauca Valley region.
