Fiji - Fijian Iguana

The International Iguana Foundation (IIF) funds and partners with researchers in Fiji to aid the survival and current status of the Fiji Crested and Banded Iguanas. The IIF educates the public on the important roles that iguanas play in the ecosystem and the threats that iguana face in their respective environments, conducts field research, supports recovery programs and operates a grants program for the conservation of endangered iguanas. So little is known about the endangered Fijian Iguanas that the crested species was not even discovered until researchers from an IIF grant study in 2009 found it. Zoo Miami contributed funding in 2010 towards helping the IIF continue its successful programs and serves on the IIF board.
