The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Ape Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Conservation Initiative is a collaborative effort by zoos started in 2010 to help conserve wild ape populations.  In 2010, Zoo Miami donated towards this general fund to be distributed among many vital projects.  This project titled, “Population Mapping of Gibbons in Kalimantan,

Indonesia: Correlates
of Gibbon Density and Vegetation across the Species Range” will explore the dense interior regions of gibbon tropical forest habitat that is threatened by logging, mining and conversion to oil palm and acacia plantations.  Populations as well as habitat health will be evaluated and used to guide conservation strategies for this region.
