Ujung Kulon National Park, Java - Javan Rhinoceros
There are less than 50 critically endangered Javan Rhinos that only exist in the Ujung Kulon National Park on Java, Indonesia. The International Rhino Foundation (IRF) funds protection efforts that have curtailed poaching completely in the last 5 years. The IRF continues to work with the Indonesia government to increase the population to the carrying capacity of the park to around 70 animals. A long term goal of the IRF is to begin a translocation program to another secure location in Indonesia once the population in the Ujung Kulon National Park has reached its target. Zoo Miami donated to the IRF in 2010 to support their successful efforts.
