Southeast Florida - Rim Rock Crowned Snake

Zoo Miami awarded a grant through the Zoo Miami Conservation and research Fund and staff time toward aiding Kirsten Hines M.S. in her research efforts to document the current population of the elusive Rim Rock Crowned Snake (Tantilla oolitica) in Southeast Florida.  Kirsten began her study in 2007 in the expected core range for the species.  Funding received from the Zoo in 2009 helped her expand her study range into other possible locations for the species.  Kristenís study has been the only range-wide study ever conducted for this protected species.  Information obtained through this study helped provide information for the re-assessment of this species by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and listing as a state Threatened species.
